Inappropriate selection of a horse can be costly, both financially and emotionally. At CVVS we recommend a thorough evaluation prior to the purchase of any horse whether it is a pleasure pony or a racing/performance animal. We encourage the purchasers to discuss their requirements with our veterinarians before the commencement of the examination.
We perform pre-purchase examinations in accordance with the Australian Equine Veterinarians Association (EVA) guidelines and using the standard protocol. A routine pre-purchase exam consists of a Physical exam, examination during turning and backing and at the walk and trot. Flexion testing is also routinely carried out.
